Saint Vincent tops Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team closed the home portion of the 2014-15 regular season Saturday afternoon by dropping a 72-48 decision to visiting Saint Vincent (20-3, 14-2) in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City (10-13, 8-8) jumped out to a 13-6 lead and led 23-22 with 5:32 left in the first half. However, Saint Vincent held Grove City without a field goal for the remainder of the first half and led 31-25 at the half. The Bearcats then broke open the game with a 16-2 run at the outset of the second half.

Junior forward Kathryn Erbelding (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) paced Grove City with a 20-point, 11-rebound double-double. Freshman guard Lexie Arkwright (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) added 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

Grove City shot 17 for 51 (33 percent) from the field for the game while Saint Vincent recorded a 25-for-55 (46 percent) shooting effort. Grove City outrebounded Saint Vincent, 42-28, but the Wolverines turned over the ball 28 times. Saint Vincent committed 13 turnovers. Taylor Mathers led Saint Vincent with 21 points.

Grove City will visit conference foe Bethany at 6 p.m. Wednesday night.
