Thomas More tops Grove City

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped a 93-42 decision to top-ranked Thomas More in the semifinal round of the 2015 Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament at the Connor Convocation Center Friday night.

Thomas More (26-0), the tournament's top seed, charged out to a 30-10 lead midway through the first half. The Saints then led 52-25 at halftime.

Junior forward Kathryn Erbelding (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) led fifth-seeded Grove City (14-14) with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Freshman guard Lexie Arkwright (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) added 10 points and a team-high six rebounds. Junior forward Natalija Galens (Covert, Mich./Grace Christian) chipped in nine points.

Grove City shot 15 for 48 (31 percent) from the field for the game while Thomas More went 31 of 62 (50 percent). Thomas More forced Grove City to commit 31 turnovers. Thomas More held a 32-31 edge in rebounds. 

Sydney Moss led Thomas More with 28 points. Thomas More will now host No. 2 seed Saint Vincent in Saturday's championship game. Saint Vincent downed No. 3 Washington & Jefferson in the other semifinal, 71-55.

Grove City made its first appearance in the tournament semifinals since 2011. The Wolverines will lose seniors Cayley McClean (Airville, Pa./Kennard-Dale), Brandy Nickoloff (Pittsburgh, Pa./St. Joseph) and Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) to graduation.
