Grove City drops conference opener
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team opened its Presidents' Athletic Conference schedule Wednesday night with a 77-44 setback at Washington & Jefferson (5-1, 1-0 PAC) in the Henry Memorial Center.
W&J jumped out to a 15-2 lead in the first quarter and extended the lead to 27-6 by the end of the period.
Sophomore Lexie Arkwright (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) paced Grove City (2-3, 0-1 PAC) with 14 points. Junior guard Teresa Dallatore (Mars, Pa./Mars) and freshman center Laura Buchanan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) both grabbed four rebounds for the Wolverines. Dallatore also had a game-high four steals.
Grove City shot 19 of 55 (35 percent) from the field while W&J went 29 of 63 (46 percent). W&J owned a 44-30 edge in rebounds.
Taylor Cortazzo led W&J with 12 points.
Grove City will open its home schedule Saturday against Waynesburg. Tip-off is 1 p.m.
