Grove City falls to Carnegie Mellon

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team wrapped up its 2015 home schedule Wednesday night by dropping an 80-63 decision to visiting Carnegie Mellon (8-0) in non-conference action at the Grove City College Arena.

Senior forward Kathryn Erbelding (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) poured in a game-high 24 points for Grove City while sophomore guard Lexie Arkwright (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) added 18 points. Erbelding also had a game-high nine rebounds and four assists while Arkwright added three assists.

Grove City led 18-16 after the first quarter and extended the lead to 22-18 on an Erbelding jumper with 8:21 left in the first half. However, CMU closed the second quarter on a 23-7 run and led 41-29 at halftime. CMU led 62-46 after 30 minutes.

Grove City went 26 of 60 (43 percent) from the field while Carnegie Mellon converted 27 of 59 (46 percent) attempts. CMU also went 8 for 18 from behind the three-point line.

CMU outrebounded Grove City, 42-28. Grove City forced CMU to commit 18 turnovers.

For Grove City, junior guard Teresa Dallatore (Mars, Pa./Mars) also had three assists and tallied a team-leading five steals. Sophomore guard Katelyn Miller (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) added three assists.

Lisa Murphy and Lindsay Poss each posted 23 points for Carnegie Mellon.

Grove City returns to Presidents' Athletic Conference play Saturday at Thomas More. Tip-off is 2 p.m.
