Grove City charges past Saint Vincent

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team improved to 3-0 in 2016 by earning a 74-66 home win Saturday afternoon over Saint Vincent in Presidents' Athletic Conference play at the Grove City College Arena.

Senior forward Kathryn Erbelding (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) poured in 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help lead Grove City (5-8, 3-3 PAC). Erbelding's jumper with 4:19 remaining sparked the Wolverines' game-clinching 9-0 run.

 Junior guard Teresa Dallatore (Mars, Pa./Mars) distributed a career-high seven assists while Erbelding added four assists and three steals. Freshman center Laura Buchanan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) posted 11 points while junior guard Jackie Stewart (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) and sophomore guard Lexie Arkwright (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) both had nine points.

Grove City shot 57 percent (31 of 54) from the field for the game and also owned a 40-32 edge in rebounds. Defensively, Grove City held Saint Vincent to a 21-of-64 (33 percent) performance from the field.

Grove City led 20-17 after the first quarter and extended the lead to 39-34 by halftime. Saint Vincent rallied to take a 50-48 lead in the third quarter but Grove City took the lead for good with 39 seconds left in the period on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Katelyn Miller (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East).

Stewart and freshman guard Erin Logue (St. Petersburg, Pa./Allegheny-Clarion Valley) both had three assists while Arkwright amassed four steals.

Mara Benvenuti led Saint Vincent (7-6, 2-4 PAC) with 21 points.

Grove City will host conference foe Chatham at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
