Wolverines notch fourth straight

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team earned its fourth straight victory Wednesday night by pulling out a 69-56 home win over Chatham in Presidents' Athletic Conference play at the Grove City College Arena.

Sophomore guard Lexie Arkwright (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) fired in a career-high 27 points on 9-of-12 marksmanship while senior forward Kathryn Erbelding (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) recorded a 10-point, 13-rebound double-double.

Meanwhile, freshman center Laura Buchanan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) tied Grove City's single-game record with eight blocked shots. She also collected a career-high 14 rebounds.

Grove City (6-8, 4-3 PAC) scored the final five points of the first half to take a 31-28 halftime lead. The Wolverines then opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run, which Arkwright sparked with a three-pointer. The lead grew to 12, 50-38, with 2:07 left in the quarter when sophomore guard Katelyn Miller (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) hit a three-point goal.

Miller finished with nine points while junior guard Jackie Stewart (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) added eight points and a game-high five assists. Arkwright added eight rebounds and five steals. Grove City owned a 44-39 edge on the glass.

For the game, Grove City shot 26 of 60 (43 percent) from the field whiel Chatham went 19 of 56 (34 percent). Chatham had 19 turnovers while Grove City turned over the ball 17 teimes.

Ashley McClain led Chatham (6-8, 3-4 PAC) with 16 points.

Grove City has won four straight regular season games for the first time since January 6-12, 2011. Grove City closed the 2014-15 regular season with two wins, then earned consecutive wins in the conference tournament. Alison Wells set Grove City's blocked shot record with eight blocks January 26, 2011 against Washington & Jefferson.

The Wolverines will visit Thiel in conference play Saturday at 1 p.m. in Greenville.
