Thomas More tops Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped to 5-6 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with a 92-37 home setback Wednesday night against top-ranked Thomas More (17-0, 11-0) in the Grove City College Arena.

Sophomore guard Lexie Arkwright (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) paced Grove City (7-11 overall) with 10 points and a game-high five steals. Junior guard Jackie Stewart (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) added six points.

Thomas More closed the first quarter with a 14-2 run and led 22-10 after 10 minutes. The Saints then extended the lead to 52-23 by halftime.

Grove City shot 15 of 52 (29 percent) from the field while Thomas More went 40 of 76 (53 percent). Thomas More outrebounded Grove City 46-31. Senior forward Natalija Galens (Covert, Mich./Grace Christian), freshman center Laura Buchanan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) and freshman guard Erin Logue (St. Petersburg, Pa./Allegheny-Clarion Valley) all had four rebounds for the Wolverines.

Sydney Moss led Thomas More with 17 points and eight assists. Thomas More has won 50 consecutive games. The Saints went 33-0 last year in winning the Division III national title.

Grove City will visit conference foe Waynesburg at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
