Wolverines blast Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team improved to 6-6 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference by earning a 70-49 win Saturday afternoon at conference foe Waynesburg in Rudy Marisa Field House. Grove City (8-11 overall) led 31-18 at halftime and maintained its double-digit lead throughout the second half.

Three Wolverines scored in double figures, led by sophomore guard Lexie Arkwright (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) with 16 points. Freshman center Laura Buchanan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) poured in 13 points while senior forward Kathryn Erbelding (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) added a dozen points.

Defensively, Grove City limited Waynesburg (9-10, 7-5 PAC) to a 17-of-50 (34 percent) shooting effort from the field for the game. Grove City also forced 19 turnovers while committing only 11.

Buchanan added nine rebounds and Arkwright had eight boards. Grove City outrebounded Waynesburg 37-36. Buchanan also had three blocks while Arkwright recorded three steals. Senior forward Natalija Galens (Covert, Mich./Grace Christian) distributed three assists.

Grove City shot 24 of 59 (41 percent) from the field. The Wolverines also went 22 of 26 (85 percent) at the foul line.

Addy Knetzer led Waynesburg with 24 points.

Grove City will host conference foe Westminster at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Grove City College Arena.
