Grove City wins on Senior Day

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team closed the 2015-16 regular season Saturday afternoon with a 63-53 victory over visiting Thiel in Presidents' Athletic Conference play at the Grove City College Arena.

Four Grove City players scored in double figures, led by a 17-point, 16-rebound double-double from senior forward Kathryn Erbelding (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia). Sophomore guard Lexie Arkwright (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) posted 14 points while junior guard Jackie Stewart (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) fired in 12 points. Freshman center Laura Buchanan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) added 11 points for the Wolverines (13-12, 11-7 PAC).

Grove City jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first quarter and never trailed. The Wolverines led by as many as 16, 25-9, in the first half. Thiel (4-21, 4-14) pulled to within six in the final minute but Arkwright went 4 for 4 at the foul line to sew up the victory.

Grove City shot 23 of 65 (35 percent) from the field while holding Thiel to a 16-for-52 (31 percent) effort. Grove City also outrebounded Thiel, 49-38. Arkwright collected eight rebounds while Buchanan had seven boards.

Stewart added three assists and Erbelding tallied four steals. Grove City had 13 turnovers, including just three in the second half. The Wolverines forced 19 Thiel turnovers.

Hannah Stoneman led with 12 points.

Grove City will be the No. 4 seed in next week's Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament. The Wolverines will host either No. 5 Saint Vincent or No. 8 Bethany in Wednesday night's quarterfinals at 7 p.m.
