Wolverines drop tournament game

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped a 56-44 decision to visiting Saint Vincent in the quarterfinal round of the 2016 Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament Wednesday night at the Grove City College Arena. Fifth-seeded Saint Vincent (15-12) will now face top-seeded Thomas More in the conference semifinals Friday night at 8 p.m.

Fourth-seeded Grove City (13-13) led 13-4 after the first quarter and held a 22-16 edge at halftime. However, Saint Vincent outscored the Wolverines 12-6 in the third quarter, then opened the fourth quarter on a 10-1 run.

Sophomore guard Lexie Arkwright (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) paced Grove City with 13 points while senior forward Kathryn Erbelding (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) and junior guard Jackie Stewart (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) both added nine points.

Grove City shot 18 of 49 (37 percent) from the field while Saint Vincent finished 22 of 63 (35 percent). In the second half, Saint Vincent went 15 for 28 (54 percent) while Grove City converted 8 of 26 shots (31 percent).

Senior forward Natalija Galens (Covert, Mich./Grace Christian) led the Wolverines with a game-high nine rebounds. Grove City outrebounded Saint Vincent, 38-36. The Wolverines committed 23 turnovers while Saint Vincent had 13 turnovers. Erbelding added five assists while Arkwright tallied four steals.

Hannah Carroll and Jasmine Weems each led Saint Vincent with 13 points.

Erbelding concludes her career with 1,162 points, the ninth-highest total in program history. She and Galens are the two seniors on the 2015-16 squad.
