Lady Wolverines Flirt With Miracle
GROVE CITY, PA, December 1, 1999--Grove City nearly erased a 52-point margin in 52 weeks, leading nationally-ranked Baldwin-Wallace 31-30 at halftime before falling 65-54 to the Yellow Jackets, who downed the Lady Wolverines 86-34 in last year's meeting.
Jackie Becker (Broadview Hts., OH/Brecksville-Broadview Hts.), who finished with a team-high 10 points and 10 rebounds, gave GCC a 33-30 edge with the first bucket of the second half, but B-W rallied with back-to-back three pointers to take a lead it wouldn't surrender. The Lady Wolverines battled back from a 14-point deficit (53-39), cutting the lead to four three times -- the last at 57-53 with 3:07 left in regulation.
Four Lady Wolverines finished with eight points: Lindsay Yeats (McLean, VA/Langley), who was 4-for-5 and added eight rebounds, Stephanie Murphy (Munroe Falls, OH/Sto-Munroe Falls), Cara Denniston (Grove City, PA/Grove City) and Kristina Dixon (Smethport, PA/Smethport).
The Lady Wolverines fell to 2-2, while the nation's seventh-ranked Yellow Jackets improved to 4-0.
