GCC Drops Opener at Wooster Tourney

WOOSTER, OH, December 10, 1999--Captain Jackie Becker (Broadview Hts., OH/Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) scored a team-high 12 points on 6-for-9 shooting, but Grove City couldn't rally from a 13-point halftime deficit in a 64-46 loss to Hanover (IN) in the first round of the Nan Nichols Tournament at the College of Wooster.

Lindsay Yeats also posted double-digit points for the Lady Wolverines with 10, going 5-for-8 from the floor.  Yeats added a team-best nine rebounds.  Erica Youngman (Slippery Rock, PA/Slippery Rock), who put GCC ahead 5-0 with a two and a three, finished with seven points and four assists.  Stephanie Murphy (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) also had four dishes.

After trailing 5-0, Hanover went on a 27-9 run to lead 27-14 at halftime.

Jennifer Skaggs and Andrea Spurgeon led Hanover with 20 and 19 points, respectively.  Skaggs and Spurgeon evenly split 26 of the Lady Panthers' 39 rebounds.

The Lady Wolverines only attempted four free throws in the game (1-4), while the Lady Panthers went 8-for-13 from the stripe.

Grove City fell to 3-3 overall and will play in Saturday's Consolation Game at 2:00 p.m. against Notre Dame (OH), who lost in the other semifinal, 74-66, to host Wooster.  Hanover improved to 5-2.
