Grove City Beats Notre Dame, 72-52

WOOSTER, OH, December 11, 1999--The Grove City College women's basketball team buried more free throws (26) than field goals (23) in a 72-52 victory over Notre Dame College (OH) in the consolation game of the Nan Nichols Tournament at the College of Wooster.

The Lady Wolverines toed the line 39 times (26-39), after attempting just four free throws in Friday's 64-46 loss at Hanover.

Jackie Becker (Broadview Hts., OH/Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) led the way with a game-high 19 points and 14 rebounds and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.  Cara Denniston (Grove City, PA/Grove City) also hit double figures in her first collegiate start, scoring 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting.  Denniston was 3-for-3 from the line and added a game-high four steals.

Erica Youngman (Slippery Rock, PA/Slippery Rock) recorded five assists, while Becker, Stephanie Murphy (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) and T.L. Thompson (Girard, PA/Girard) each had three steals.  Murphy was also 6-for-6 from the stripe.  Livia Wright (Economy, PA/Ambridge) and Lindsay Yeats (McLean, VA/Langley) grabbed eight and seven boards, respectively.

The Lady Wolverines, who led 29-24 at halftime, trailed 38-37 midway through the second half before outscoring Notre Dame the rest of the way, 35-14.

Grove City improved to 4-3, while Notre Dame fell to 0-9.
