St. Mary's Downs GCC, Goes To 9-0 Box Score ST. MARY'S CITY, MD, December 30, 1999--Livia Wright (Ambridge, PA/Economy) posted a team-high 15 points and nine rebounds off the bench, but Grove City couldn't keep host St. Mary's of Maryland from netting its ninth straight victory in a 61-51 non-conference loss. The Lady Wolverines fell to 5-4 overall, while the Seahawks improved to 9-0. Grove City played St. Mary's even for the first nine minutes, before the Seahawks went on a 20-10 run and led 29-22 at halftime. Kristy Kegg (Johnstown, PA/Ferndale), who finished with 11 points, nailed a three-pointer five minutes into the second half to cut the deficit to two, but St. Mary's rallied with a 12-3 run to take an 11-point lead, 49-38, with 11 minutes remaining. Grove City clawed back to within five, 56-51, when Jackie Becker (Broadview Hts., OH/Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) dropped in two of her eight points with 1:27 showing, but the Seahawks secured the win by scoring the game's final five points. Wright was 6-for-10 from the floor and 3-for-5 from the free-throw line. Kegg added five rebounds and five assists, while Lindsay Yeats (McLean, VA/Langley) chipped in with eight points and eight boards. Felicia Harris scored a game-high 22 points for St. Mary's. St. Mary's opened a 20-8 campaign last year with a 48-40 victory over the Lady Wolverines in Grove City's AmeriHost Inn Tip-Off Classic. GCC opens the new millennium at Penn State Behrend next Thursday at 6:00 p.m. |
