Bethany Holds Off GCC in PAC Opener

BETHANY, WV, January 19, 2000 --Grove City opened a 23-11 lead over defending league champion Bethany, but closed on the short end of a 69-59 decision in the Presidents' Athletic Conference opener for both schools in Bethany, WV.

The Lady Wolverines had their three-game winning steak snapped and fell to 8-5 overall, 0-1 PAC.   The Bison improved to 11-3 overall, 1-0 PAC.

Bethany rallied from the 12-point first-half deficit with a 13-0 run and led 36-32 at halftime.  The game was knotted, 55-55, with five minutes left when PAC player of the week Rose Scott broke the tie with a three-pointer and sealed the win with free throws down the stretch.  Scott posted a triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals.

Kristina Dixon (Smethport, PA/Smethport) led four Lady Wolverines in double figures with 13 points on 5-for-6 shooting.  Dixon was 3-for-4 from outside the arc and added five rebounds and four assists.  Kristy Kegg (Johnstown, PA/Ferndale) recorded 12 points, including 10 in the first half, four dishes and three steals.  Stephanie Murphy (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) and Livia Wright (Economy, PA/Ambridge) had 10 points each.  Wright added five boards and two blocked shots.  Lindsay Yeats (McLean, VA/Langley) pulled down a team-high six boards as GCC outrebounded Bethany, 31-28.

Jill Kamerer tossed in a game-high 18 points for the Bison.

The Lady Wolverines host Thiel Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
