Thiel Downs GCC, 59-50 Box Score GREENVILLE, PA, February 9, 2000 --The Lady Wolverines opened up a 7-0 lead in the first two minutes, but were held to just three more field goals in the first half as Thiel turned an eight-point lead at intermission into a 59-50 victory in Greenville. Grove City dropped to 12-8 overall, 2-4 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. Thiel improved to 11-9 overall, 3-2 in the PAC. Livia Wright (Economy, PA/Ambridge) scored a GCC-high 11 points on 5-for-6 shooting, while Stephanie Murphy (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) added 10 points. Thiel's Tammy Willrich led three Lady Cats in double figures with 16 points. Grove City opened the second half with a 13-5 run to tie the game, 33-33, and led by as many as five points, 45-40, with 8:30 showing. However, Thiel countered with a 9-0 run to re-take the lead and never trailed the rest of the way. Grove City outshot Thiel from the floor (35% to 33%), but the Lady Cats did their damage at the free-throw line, hitting 16 of 18 in the second half and 23 of 27 in the game. The 50 points marked the Lady Wolverines' third-lowest offensive showing of the season. They fired in 52 points in the first half against Chatham two nights ago. Grove City hosts PAC-rival Washington & Jefferson Saturday at 2:00 p.m. |
