GCC Takes Bethany to Wire Box Score BETHANY, WV, February 25, 2000 --Two days after escaping with a slim win over bottom-seeded Waynesburg, the Lady Wolverines nearly upset top-seed and NCAA playoff-bound Bethany in the semifinal round of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament Friday night. Livia Wright (Economy, PA/Ambridge) rolled off three straight buckets to give Grove City (14-12) a 38-35 lead with 5:25 left in regulation, but the defending champion Bison (21-4) recovered with an 11-0 run and advanced to the PAC title game with a 50-41 victory. Wright finished with a team-high 12 points and five rebounds. Kristina Dixon (Smethport, PA/Smethport) tossed in eight points, including a pair of three-pointers. Lindsay Yeats (McLean, VA/Langley) grabbed five boards and T.L Thompson (Girard, PA/Girard) added four steals. The Lady Wolverines held the Bison to 32% shooting in the game -- 24% in the second half (4-17). Bethany led at halftime, 30-20. Jill Kamerer had high-point honors for the Bison with 15, but Rose Scott keyed the win by scoring the first six points in the 11-0 run. Scott netted 10 of her 12 points in the final four minutes. |
