Lady Wolverines claim second place at PACs

WHEELING, WV, April 25, 2002-- A second-day charge by Washington & Jefferson College erased a two-shot Grove City lead and gave the Presidents their second straight Presidents' Athletic Conference women's golf title on Thursday at Crispin Golf Course in Wheeling, WV.

The Lady Wolverines trailed W&J by 26 shots in the final team standings to claim second place for the second year in a row.  They finished 68 shots behind W&J at the 2001 championship.

Freshman Mary Brown (Carnegie, PA/Carlynton) fired a 90 over the two-day, 18-hole event to place second overall and represent Grove City on the PAC First Team.  Sophomore Betsy Hollo (Natick, MA/Natick) and junior Kristin Costanzo (Powell, OH/Olentangy) carded scores of 103 and 108, respectively, to place sixth and seventh overall and earn spots on the PAC Second Team.  Sophomore Danielle Balliet (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) also garnered PAC second-team honors with a ninth-place score of 121.

W&J, led by tournament MVP Lynne Szarnicki's 82, repeated as champs with a team score of 396.  Grove City finished at 422, followed by Thiel at 533.
