Grove City wins Presidents' Athletic Conference title

BELLE VERNON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's golf team captured the program's eighth all-time Presidents' Athletic Conference championship Tuesday by rallying past Washington & Jefferson for the conference title at Cedarbrook Golf Club. Grove City trailed W&J by 12 strokes entering Tuesday's round. However, Wolverines carded a 379 while W&J recorded a 398, giving the Wolverines a seven-shot victory.

Grove City finished the 72-hole championships with a team score of 1,490 while W&J finished at 1,497. Westminster finished third at 1,530.

Sophomore Esther Durling (Perry, Mich./Perry) captured the conference's Player of the Year award for the second straight year by firing an aggregate 174 Monday and Tuesday. She edged Saint Vincent's Sarah Rebitch by one shot.

Durling also earned First Team All-PAC recognition and two Grove City golfers earned Second Team honors. Junior Kayla Finney (Valencia, Pa./Mars) placed seventh overall with a 189 and sophomore Victoria VanBuskirk (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) took 10th with a 198.

Sophomore Meghan Love (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) finished 13th overall with a 201 and senior Ellie Stanchak (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township), this week's reigning PAC Player of the Week, finished 16th overall with a 206.

Grove City also won the conference in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2003 and 2011.

The Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships feature four rounds of competition -- two in the fall and two in the spring. All four rounds count toward the team championship while Player of the Year and All-PAC Teams are determined solely by the spring competition.

At the Fall Championships, W&J shot a 717 while Grove City totaled 732. Durling also earned Player of the Year at the fall event.
