Wolverines win second-straight PAC title

BELLE VERNON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's golf team captured the program's ninth all-time Presidents' Athletic Conference title and second-straight by cruising to a 31-stroke victory over Saint Vincent at the conference Spring Championships at Cedarbrook Golf Club on Friday and Saturday afternoon.

The Wolverines finished the 72-hole championships with a score of 1469 while Saint Vincent overtook Westminster for second with a 1500.

Junior Esther Durling (Perry, Mich./Perry) earned PAC Player of the Year honors for the third year in a row by leading the 33-golfer field with a 36-hole score of 165. Durling trailed Saint Vincent's Sarah Rebitch by two strokes after shooting an 84 on day one but rallied with an 81 on Saturday to beat Rebitch by two strokes overall.

Durling has earned medalist honors at each of the last five PAC golf championships (three fall, two spring).

Additionally, eighth-year head coach Melissa Lamie was named the PAC Women's Golf Coach of the Year for the second-straight season and third time in four years.

Senior Kayla Finney (Valencia, Pa./Mars) joined Durling on the All-PAC First Team by finishing in a three-way tie for fourth place with a 182 (93-89) while freshman Jordan Greenwall (Denver, Colo./Arapahoe) earned All-PAC Honorable Mention Status with her 15th-place score of 197 (101-96).

Junior Meghan Love (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) finished 18th with a 204 (102-102) while junior Victoria VanBuskirk (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) posted a 220 (110-110) to tie for 24th.

With the victory, the Wolverines have received the PAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Golf Championships for the first time. The 2014 DIII Championships will be held Tuesday-Friday, May 13-16 at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in the Hills, Fla.
