Heck earns Academic All-District

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College senior women's soccer player Jessica Heck (Canton, Mich./Plymouth) recently earned First Team Division III Academic All-District honors from Capital One and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) through voting by the region's sports information directors.

As a First Team selection, Heck now advances to the national Academic All-America ballot. The Academic All-America team will be announced later in November. It is Heck's second straight Academic All-America citation.

Heck has played in all 19 matches at center back for Grove City (10-8-1), including 18 starts. She has helped the Wolverine defense record three shutouts this year while limiting opponents to a 1.38 goals-against average this year. Offensively, Heck has three assists, which ranks fourth on the squad.

During her career, Heck has contributed to 20 shutout performances on defense. She is a three-year starter for Grove City and earned Second Team All-Presidents' Athletic Conference honors in both 2011 and 2012. Heck started 20 matches in 2012, playing a pivotal role in the Wolverines reaching the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

In the classroom, Heck has compiled a 3.78 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in psychology and business management. She has been named to the conference's Academic Honor Roll and the Dean's List.

The 2013-14 academic year marks the third year that CoSIDA has based its Academic All-America program on individual divisions within college athletics. Currently, CoSIDA honors student-athletes in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, along with a "College" division that includes NAIA institutions and junior colleges.

Grove City is now part of District IV for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program. District IV includes all of the NCAA Division III programs in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
