GCC wins tourney title with fourth straight win

FREDONIA, NY, September 9, 2000--The Lady Wolverines used a goal by freshman Meg Tilley (Columbia, MD/Hammond) in the 77th minute to defeat host Fredonia State, 2-1, in the Championship Game of the Ninth Annual Days Inn Soccer Tournament in Fredonia, NY.

The win moved Grove City's record to 4-0 -- the best start in the program's nine-year history.

Tilley buried the game-winner -- her fourth goal of the season -- on a rebound off the post.  Seniors Alejandra Medina (Strongsville, OH/Bethlehem Catholic) and Erica Snow (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) were credited with the assists.

Sophomore goalkeeper Katy Turman (Meadowbrook, PA/Abington) made seven saves and was voted the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Snow put Grove City ahead 1-0 in the 35th minute off a pass from Tilley.  Snow and Tilley were named to the All-Tournament Team, as was midfielder Christine Litwa (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa).

Fredonia State, who tied the game in 64th minute, fell to 1-1 overall.
