Lady Wolverines win school-record sixth in a row

WAYNESBURG, PA, October 12, 2001--The Grove City College women's soccer team set a new school record for consecutive victories Friday afternoon, winning its sixth straight game at Waynesburg College by a final score of 3-0.  The Lady Wolverines improved to 8-5-2 overall and 6-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.

Grove City did all of its damage in the first half, opening the scoring in the fourth minute on sophomore Diane Metzger's fourth goal of the season, assisted by sophomore Meg Tilley (Columbia, MD/Hammond).  The Lady Wolverines then struck with a pair of goals in the final six minutes of the half, the first coming on a penalty kick by sophomore Danielle Balliet (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) -- her second goal of the fall.  Minutes later, Tilley capped the scoring with her ninth goal of the year off a pass from sophomore Katie Wray (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport).

Junior goalkeeper Katy Turman and senior netminder Erica Long (Cranberry Twp., PA/Slippery Rock) combined on the team's sixth shutout in the last seven games.  Grove City is unbeaten in its last seven (6-0-1), having outscored its opponents 15-1 during the streak.

The previous record of five straight victories was set in 1993.
