Hip, hip, hoo-Wray, GCC wins eighth in row

GROVE CITY, PA, October 18, 2001--Sophomore Katie Wray (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) picked a perfect time to score her first career goal.

With six minutes left in the second overtime session, Wray fired a low shot into the left corner of the net, giving the Lady Wolverines their eighth straight win with a 2-1 triumph over visiting Thiel College.  The goal came off a corner kick by sophomore Danielle Balliet (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel).

The Lady Wolverines improved to 10-5-2 overall and closed their Presidents' Athletic Conference slate with a perfect 8-0-0 mark.  Thiel dropped to 6-8-4 overall, 3-3-2 in the PAC.

Grove City's school-record win streak and unbeaten league record appeared to be in jeopardy through most of the game.  Thiel scored first in the 19th minute and held the lead into the 86th minute when GCC sophomore Meg Tilley (Columbia, MD/Hammond) knotted the score at 1-1 with her team-high 11th goal of the season.

The Lady Wolverines were in control from start to finish, however, outshooting the Lady Cats, 26-3.

Grove City will host 14-3 Frostburg State University tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
