Lady Wolverines blast Bethany, 8-1, in league opener

BETHANY, W. Va. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team (4-4-1, 1-0 PAC) jumped out to a 4-0 first-half lead and rolled to an 8-1 win over host Bethany in the Lady Wolverines' Presidents' Athletic Conference opener Saturday afternoon

Sophomore forward Michelle Novosel (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) scored a pair of unassisted goals to ignite the Grove City offense. Senior Karen Reefer (Butler, Pa./Slippery Rock) stretched the lead to 3-0 while a Meg Tilley (Columbia, Md./Hammond) goal gave Grove City a 4-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Tilley scored her second of the match while Danielle Balliet (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) scored via Tilley's second assist of the day. Denna Steltzer (Geneseo, N.Y./Geneseo) and Stacey Brubaker (Houston, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) both scored, also. Brubaker assisted on Tilley's first goal while Jennifer Bailey (Simsburg, Conn./The Masters School) and Heather Peters (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) each had assists.

Katy Turman (Abington, Pa./Abington) and Lindsey Thompson (Woodstown, N.J./Woodstown) each played a half in goal. Turman made one save while Thompson stopped two shots.

Grove City begins Presidents' Athletic Conference play Saturday at Bethany.
