Grove City scores season-high nine goals in victory

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team (6-4-1, 2-0 PAC) remained on top of the Presidents' Athletic Conference with a 9-2 victory over visiting Washington and Jefferson Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Karen Reefer (Butler, Pa./Slippery Rock) scored a pair of goals as did freshman Kate Klingensmith (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland). Michelle Novosel (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) also scored twice while Meg Tilley (Columbia, Md./Hammond), Jen Bailey (Simsburg, Conn./The Masters School) and Stacey Brubaker (Houston, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) all fired in goals.

Klingensmith's first goal came just 18 seconds into the match after a cross from Reefer. Novosel scored a pair of unassisted goals in a two-minute span that extended the lead to 3-1. Tilley scored on a penalty kick and then assisted on Reefer's first goal. Danielle Balliet (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) had a pair of assists while freshman Kristin Hummel (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) provided the assist for Brubaker's goal.

Grove City out-shot Washington and Jefferson, 31-12. Katy Turman (Abington, Pa./Abington) and Lindsey Thompson (Woodstown, N.J./Woodstown) split time in goal for Grove City.

The nine goals surpasses the eight Grove City scored against both La Roche and Bethany this year. The school record is 11, which came in an 11-0 win over Muskingum in 1995.
