Grove City ends 3-game streak with 3-1 triumph

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Led by a goal and assist from senior defender Jessica Smith (Grove City, Pa./Grove City), the Grove City College women's soccer team snapped a three-match losing streak with a 3-1 victory over visiting Mount Union Saturday afternoon at College Field.

Smith assisted on Grove City's first goal of the game, a blast from senior midfielder Diane Metzger (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) in the 20th minute. Smith then scored her first collegiate goal seven minutes later, putting Grove City up 2-0. 

Freshman Megan Guy (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) put Grove City up 3-0 with her first collegiate goal at the 34:10 mark of the first half. Senior Meg Tilley (Columbia, Md./Hammond) supplied the assist.

Mount Union broke up the shutout in the second half on a goal from Laura Bandy.

Sophomore Lindsay Thompson (Woodstown, N.J./Woodstown) played the first half in goal and did not face a shot. Freshman Kori Koper (North Huntington, Pa./Norwin) had four saves in 45 minutes.

The Lady Wolverines (2-3-1) host Frostburg State Wednesday at 4 p.m. Both teams qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament last year.
