Lady Wolverines roll Frostburg, 4-2; win 2nd straight

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Four different Grove City players scored goals as the host Lady Wolverines downed Frostburg State in non-conference women's soccer action Wednesday afternoon at College Field.

Grove City (3-3-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead less than 15 minutes into the match, then held off a Frostburg (4-4) comeback bid in the second half.

Sophomore forward Stacey Brubaker (Houston, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) put Grove City on top in the fifth minute with her first goal of the season after an assist from senior Meg Tilley (Columbia, Md./Hammond).

Ten minutes later, the Grove City lead doubled as sophomore Kate Klingensmith (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) scored directly off a corner kick from senior Diane Metzger (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin).

Frostburg slashed Grove City's lead in half in the 50th minute as Danielle Carter scored the first of her two goals. Tilley boosted Grove City's advantage back to 3-1 in the 71st minute after a cross from junior Michelle Novosel (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington).

Carter's second goal of the match cut the lead to 3-2 but Novosel fed classmate Leah Partridge (Newport, Vt./United Christian), who scored her first goal of 2003 with six minutes left.

In goal, sophomore Lindsay Thompson (Woodstown, N.J./Woodstown) stopped four shots to preserve the win.

Both Grove City and Frostburg State qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament in 2002.
