Grove City wins conference opener, give Lamie 100th win
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team downed host Thiel 2-0 Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Stadium in the Lady Wolverines' Presidents' Athletic Conference opener.
The victory is the 100th career win for 11th-year head coach Melissa Lamie (100-82-10), who has led Grove City to five PAC championships in that span.
The Lady Wolverines (4-3-1, 1-0 PAC) jumped on top in the third minute on an unassisted goal from senior Danielle Balliet (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel).
Grove City's lead grew to 2-0 in the 71st minute as senior Meg Tilley (Columbia, Md./Hammond) headed in a corner kick from junior Michelle Novosel (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington).
Grove City out-shot Thiel, 28-2, and had a dozen corner kicks in the match, compared to one for Thiel (4-7, 1-1).
The Lady Wolverines will host Washington and Jefferson Saturday at 11 a.m.
