Novosel hat trick propels Grove City past Presidents

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Junior Michelle Novosel (New Wilmington, Pa./New Wilmington) blasted three first-half goals as the Grove City College women's soccer team rolled past visiting Washington and Jefferson 5-1 Saturday at College Field in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.

Novosel entered Saturday's match with just one goal on the season but quickly doubled that total early in the match. In the 9th minute, Novosel scored her first goal of the match after an assist from senior Diane Metzger (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin).

Ten minutes later, the Lady Wolverines' lead grew to 2-0 when Novosel scored off a direct kick. Fifty-seven seconds later, senior Danielle Balliet (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) scored Grove City's third goal of the match after an assist from sophomore Stacey Brubaker (Houston, Pa./Chartiers-Houston).

Novosel completed her hat trick in the 34th minute as sophomore Kate Klingensmith (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) supplied the assist.

The Presidents broke up Grove City's shutout late in the first half on a goal from Jen Pergola in the 43rd minute.

Grove City capped the match's scoring in the 50th minute as senior forward Meg Tilley (Columbia, Md./Hammond) scored via Brubaker's second assist of the match.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lindsay Thompson (Woodstown, N.J./Woodstown) stopped two shots to pick up the win.

The Lady Wolverines (5-3-1, 2-0 PAC) have won four straight matches and will host defending PAC champion Westminster Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
