Ten straight for Grove City
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Two goals in the final eight minutes propelled the Grove City College women's soccer team to its school-record 10th consecutive victory Tuesday afternoon as the Lady Wolverines (11-3-1, 7-0 PAC) blanked host Washington and Jefferson (8-7, 4-3) 2-0 at Cameron Stadium in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.
Senior Diane Metzger (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) scored from 25 yards out at the 82:05 mark to break a scoreless tie. It is Metzger's fourth goal of the season and the 15th of her career.
Seven minutes later, senior Meg Tilley (Columbia, Md./Hammond) added an insurance goal to seal the win. Junior Michelle Novosel (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) supplied the assist.
Grove City out-shot Washington and Jefferson 21-9. Goalkeeper Lindsay Thompson (Woodstown, N.J./Woodstown) picked up her 10th win of the season by making four saves. It is also Grove City's fifth shutout win of the year.
Grove City visits defending PAC champion Westminster Thursday at 4 p.m.
