Grove City wraps up home field for PAC Tournament
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Freshman Maia Siber (Canton, Ohio/McKinley) scored her first career goal in the 87th minute Thursday afternoon as visiting Grove City nipped archrival Westminster 1-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference women's soccer action.
It is Grove City's school-record 11th consecutive victory and ensures that Grove City (12-3-1, 8-0 PAC) will host the PAC Championship Tournament Nov. 6-8 as the top seed.
Siber scored on a rebound in the final minutes to break the scoreless tie. Sophomore Kate Klingensmith (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) supplied the assist.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lindsay Thompson (Woodstown, N.J./Woodstown) stopped three shots to pick up the shutout, her fifth of the season. Grove City out-shot Westminster 16-12.
The win gives Grove City a season sweep of Westminster, the defending PAC champion. The Lady Wolverines will host a conference semifinal Nov. 6 and would then host the championship match Nov. 8 should they advance.
