Grove City picks up 3rd straight shutout; streak now 12

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Senior Diane Metzger (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) scored twice while sophomore Stacey Brubaker (Houston, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) scored once and assisted on another goal as the Grove City College women's soccer team won its 12th consecutive match Tuesday by downing Waynesburg 5-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.

The victory extends Grove City's school-record win streak and lifts the Lady Wolverines' record to 13-3-1 overall, 9-0 in the PAC.

Metzger scored twice in a two-minute span early in the second half to break the match open. Grove City led 2-0 at the half but quickly doubled its lead as Metzger scored in the 52nd and 54th minutes. The first goal was unassisted while Brubaker assisted on the second goal.

Senior Meg Tilley (Columbia, Md./Hammond) broke a scoreless tie in the 27th minute with her 15th goal of the season while Brubaker's diving header into the net doubled the lead four minutes later. Junior Michelle Novosel (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) provided the assist, her PAC-leading ninth of the year. 

Freshman Kate Greco (Baltimore, Md./Our Lady of Mount Carmel) capped the scoring with her first collegiate goal at 79:11. Junior Leah Partridge (Newport, Vt./United Christian Academy) supplied the assist.

In goal, sophomore Lindsay Thompson (Woodstown, N.J./Woodstown) and freshman Kori Koper (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) each played a half to preserve Grove City's third straight shutout and seventh of the season. Koper made one save. 

Grove City out-shot Waynesburg (4-12-1, 0-8-1 PAC) 47-1. 

Grove City's defense has not allowed a goal in over 326 minutes of game action. Thompson earned this week's PAC player of the week award, becoming the first PAC goalkeeper to win the award since 1999.

Grove City visits La Roche in non-conference action Thursday before closing the regular season at home Saturday against Bethany.
