Bombers blank Grove City in NCAA opener

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Host Ithaca scored twice in the first 12 minutes, then held on for a 2-0 victory over Grove City in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament at Carp Wood Field.

Junior Rachel Thau scored both goals for Ithaca (10-5-5), which qualified for the tournament as the champion of the Empire 8 Conference. Ithaca out-shot Grove City (16-5-1) 21-3.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lindsay Thompson (Woodstown, N.J./Woodstown) stopped a season-high nine shots for Grove City, which made its second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Ithaca has made 14 NCAA appearances, second all-time.
