Grove City tops Lady Lions

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team evened its record at 1-1 Friday afternoon with a 4-1 victory over Penn State Altoona at College Field in non-conference play.

Four different Grove City players scored as the Wolverines jumped out to a 3-1 lead 11 minutes into the match. Junior Kristin Hummel (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) scored her first goal of the season just 40 seconds into the match.

Penn State Altoona (0-1) tied the match in the fourth minute but one minute later, junior Stacey Brubaker (Houston, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) scored off a pass from senior Leah Partridge (Newport, Vt./United Christian).

Grove City then doubled its lead in the 11th minute as senior Michelle Novosel (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) scored an unassisted goal. Freshman Bethany Peck (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) closed the scoring in the second half with a goal in the 65th minute. Brubaker supplied the assist.

In goal, sophomore Kori Koper (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) stopped two shots in recording the victory. Grove City out-shot the Lady Lions 25-7. The Wolverines host Medaille at 10 a.m. Saturday.
