Wolverines open PAC play with 4-1 triumph
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Three goals in the final 25 minutes of the second half helped vault the Grove City College women's soccer team to a 4-1 victory at Washington and Jefferson Tuesday night in the Wolverines' Presidents' Athletic Conference opener.
Senior Autumn Hubbard (Nampa, Idaho/Nampa Christian) broke the scoreless tie in the ninth minute with her first goal of the season. Junior Stacey Brubaker (Houston, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) supplied the assist.
Grove City held that 1-0 lead until the 63rd minute when Washington and Jefferson's Autumn Meredith scored, tying the match.
However, senior Michelle Novosel (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) broke the tie at the 65:03 mark by scoring on a penalty kick. Brubaker doubled the lead at 79:59 with her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Junior Katie Klingensmith (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) assisted on the goal. Brubaker capped the scoring at 87:37 with her second goal of the night, an unassisted score.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kori Koper (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) stopped one shot, earning the win. The Wolverines are 16-0-1 in their last 17 regular season PAC matches. Grove City visits defending PAC champion Westminster Thursday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
