Grove City rolls past Bethany, 10-0

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Eight different Grove City players scored at least one goal Thursday as the Grove City College women's soccer team rolled past visiting Bethany, 10-0, in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at College Field.

The Wolverines (7-6-1, 3-1 PAC) led 4-0 at halftime, then added a half-dozen goals in the second half. Junior Katie Klingensmith (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) scored twice and added an assist while classmate Stacey Brubaker (Houston, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) scored two second-half goals.

Klingensmith scored the Wolverines' first goal in the 11th minute from directly in front of the net. Five minutes later, sophomore Maia Siber (Canton, Ohio/Canton McKinley) doubled the lead with her first goal of the season. Klingensmith scored Grove City's third goal in the 18th minute, her third of the season. Freshman Bethany Smith (Fairport, N.Y./Homeschooled) closed the first half scoring at 37:31 with her first collegiate goal.

Brubaker scored her team-best 10th goal of the season just 1:15 into the second half after an assist from junior Kristin Hummel (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East). In the 51st minute, sophomore Jess Van Sickel (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) tallied her first career goal after a pass from Siber.

Less than two minutes later, Klingensmith assisted Brubaker's second goal of the match. Grove City extended its lead to 8-0 at 61:28 as freshman Alix Flowers (Lynchburg, Va./New Covenant) scored her first career goal. Freshman Elizabeth Telep (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) supplied the assist.

Sophomore Megan Guy (Columbus, Ohio/Bexley) and sophomore Lindsay Bowman (Delaware, Ohio/Buckeye Valley) each scored to close the scoring. Guy scored at 63:07 after a feed from sophomore Laura Blosser (Hockessin, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) while Flowers assisted Bowman at 76:01.

Sophomore Kori Koper (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) played the first 70 minutes in goal, earning the shutout. Burbaker made one save over the final 20 minutes. The Wolverines out-shot Bethany 57-1.

It is Grove City's biggest margin of victory since an 11-0 win over Muskingum in 1995. The Wolverines return to action next Wednesday, October 13, at Thiel.
