Wolverines earn 3rd straight shutout win
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team improved to 8-6-1 overall and 4-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with a 4-0 victory over host Thiel in PAC action at Alumni Stadium Wednesday afternoon. It is Grove City's third straight victory, all by shutout.
The Wolverines broke the match open with three first-half goals. Senior Michelle Novosel (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) broke a scoreless tie in the 37th minute with an unassisted goal, the first of her two goals in a four-minute span.
In the 39th minute, junior Stacey Brubaker (Houston, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) scored an unassisted goal, her team-high 12th goal of the year. Brubaker is this week's PAC Player of the Week as well as the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Player of the Week.
Two minutes after Brubaker's goal, Novosel scored again, following a pass from junior Katie Klingensmith (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland).
Grove City maintained its 3-0 lead until the 86th minute when sophomore Lindsay Bowman (Delaware, Ohio/Buckeye Valley) scored her third goal of the season. Classmate Maia Siber (Canton, Ohio/Canton McKinley) provided the assist.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kori Koper (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) stopped two shots for her fifth shutout of the season. Grove City out-shot Thiel (4-9, 2-4), 27-3.
The Wolverines return to action Friday afternoon at home against Washington and Jefferson at 4 p.m.
