Grove City blanks Westminster in PAC clash
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team extended its win streak to five Tuesday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over archrival Westminster (11-4-1, 6-1-1 PAC) at College Field in Presidents' Athletic Conference action. Grove City (10-6-1, 6-1-0 PAC) can clinch the top seed in the PAC Championship Tournament Nov. 2-6 by winning its final three PAC matches.
The Wolverines broke a scoreless tie in the 27th minute as junior Katie Klingensmith (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) scored an unassisted goal, her fifth score of 2004.
Grove City maintained its 1-0 lead until the final moments of the match as sophomore Maia Siber (Canton, Ohio/Canton McKinley) doubled the lead at the 89:38 mark with her second goal of the season. Junior forward Stacey Brubaker (Houston, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) supplied the assist.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kori Koper (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) stopped 10 shots to record her fifth consecutive shutout. The Grove City defense has not allowed a goal in 458 minutes of game action. For the season, the Wolverines have eight shutouts.
Westminster out-shot Grove City, 24-15. Grove City visits PAC rival Waynesburg Saturday at 11 a.m.
