Grove City advances to title match

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Top-seeded Grove City scored three times in a three-minute span during the first half, helping the Wolverines advance to the Presidents' Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament finals with a 4-0 win over fifth-seeded Thiel in a PAC semifinal at College Field Thursday.

Senior Michelle Novosel (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) broke a scoreless tie at the 24:50 mark with her 11th goal of the season. Junior Katie Klingensmith (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) provided the assist, her 13th of the season. Nine seconds later, Klingensmith assisted senior Autumn Hubbard (Nampa, Idaho/Nampa Christian), who doubled the lead with her fourth goal of the season.

Novosel assisted on a goal by sophomore Academic All-District selection Maia Siber (Canton, Ohio/Canton McKinley) at the 27:32 mark, pushing the Wolverines' lead to 3-0. It is Siber's fifth goal of the season.

Klingensmith capped the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 71:21 mark in the second half, her seventh goal of the season. Klingensmith also broke Novosel's single-season assist record of 13, set last season.

In goal, sophomore Kori Koper (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) stopped two shots for the shutout, her 10th of the season. Grove City (14-6-1) out-shot Thiel, 28-2.

Grove City will host second-seeded Westminster Saturday in the PAC Tournament finals. The Lady Titans defeated No. 3 Washington and Jefferson 2-0 Thursday afternoon. It is Grove City's fifth straight trip to the PAC championship match.
