CMU tops Grove City
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team fell to 0-3 Wednesday evening with a 3-0 loss to regional rival Carnegie Mellon at College Field.
CMU took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute on a goal from Kasey Stever. The lead grew to 2-0 six minutes later as CMU's Maggie Beck scored off an Amanda Rose assist. Abigail Coffin closed the match's scoring at 42:15 with an unassisted goal.
Carnegie Mellon (2-0) out-shot Grove City 29-2. Freshman Bethany Preston (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) stopped six shots in the first half in goal for the Wolverines while freshman Diana Pragel (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) stopped six shots in the second half.
Grove City opens Presidents' Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. against Thomas More at College Field.
