Wolverines blank Thiel, 8-0

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team improved to 3-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Thursday afternoon with an 8-0 win over visiting Thiel (0-11, 0-5 PAC) at College Field.

Senior Stacey Brubaker (Houston, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) scored twice while senior Katie Klingensmith (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) and sophomore Bethany Peck (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) both had a goal and an assist.

Freshman Katie Wolff (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) opened the scoring with her first career goal at the 5:49 mark of the first half. Klingensmith provided the assist. Klingensmith doubled the lead at 6:24 with her fourth goal of the season. Peck assisted on the goal.

Brubaker extended the lead to 3-0 with an unassisted goal at 10:13 while Peck scored her second goal of the season at 29:20. Freshman Kara Beevers (Jane Lew, W. Va./Homeschooled) assisted Peck. Junior Maia Siber (Canton, Ohio/Canton McKinley) closed the first-half scoring with an unassisted goal.

Sophomore Alix Flowers (Lynchburg, Va./New Covenant) scored Grove City's sixth goal at 50:46 after an assist from freshman Laura Shipley (Austin, Texas/St. Michael's). Brubaker scored her second goal of the match at 52:25 while sophomore Bethany Smith (Fairport, N.Y./Homeschooled) closed the match scoring at the 75:44 mark. Freshman Anne Koller (Titusville, Pa./Homeschooled) assisted Smith.

Grove City owned a 45-3 edge in shots. Freshman goalkeeper Bethany Preston (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) stopped one shot in 70 minutes. Brubaker played the final 20 minutes in goal and stopped two shots.

The Wolverines (3-8 overall) will visit Washington and Jefferson Tuesday night in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.
