Behrend downs Grove City
ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team fell to 6-10-2 Thursday afternoon with a 5-1 loss at Penn State Behrend in non-conference action.
Grove City fell behind 2-0 in the first half but cut the lead in half at the 36:27 mark on a goal by senior Katie Klingensmith (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland). Senior Stacey Brubaker (Houston, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) provided the assist.
However, Behrend (13-2-3) broke the match open with three second-half goals. Michelle Newland scored twice while Kacie Burns scored on a penalty kick for Penn State Behrend. Heather Crawford and Holly Greiner each scored first-half goals for the Lions.
Behrend out-shot Grove City, 32-4. Freshman goalkeeper Bethany Preston (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) stopped 11 shots.
Grove City will close the regular season Saturday afternoon against visiting Washington and Jefferson at 1 p.m. in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match.
