Grove City downs Lake Erie, 5-1
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team outshot visiting Lake Erie, 49-7, Saturday afternoon en route to a 5-1 victory in non-conference action at the Grove City College Field.
Five different Wolverines scored goals in the win. Junior Alix Flowers (Lynchburg, Va./New Covenant) gave Grove City a 1-0 lead in the 6th minute with her first goal of the season. The Wolverines (4-1) then doubled the lead to 2-0 at 27:49 as freshman Michelle Peck (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) scored her second goal of the season. Sophomore Stephanie Wild (Carmel, Ind./Heritage Christian) provided the assist.
Lake Erie cut the lead to 2-1 in the final seconds of the first half on a goal by Angela Bethel, but Grove City countered in the second half. Wild scored an unassisted goal at 63:44 while freshman Hannah Yang (Davis, Calif./Davis) recorded her first collegiate goal at the 66:36 mark. Freshman Elise Bender (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) assisted Yang.
Grove City then secured the victory at 79:11 as sophomore Anne Koller (Titusville, Pa./Homeschooled) scored her first goal of 2006. Sophomore Esther Harclerode (Cortez, Colo./Montezuma-Cortez) assisted Koller's goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Diana Pragel (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) made two saves to earn her fourth win of the year.
Grove City will host Allegheny Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. in non-conference action at College Field.
