Grove City blanks Bison, 7-0

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Six different players scored goals Friday afternoon as the Grove City College women's soccer team rolled to a 7-0 home win over visiting Bethany in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at College Field. Grove City is now 8-5 overall and 2-1 in the PAC.

Sophomore midfielder Sara Griffin (Marilla, N.Y./Nardin Academy) scored twice for Grove City while senior Maia Siber (Canton, Ohio/Canton McKinley) added a goal and an assist. Freshman Michelle Peck (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) assisted on two of the Wolverines' season-high seven goals.

Grove City stormed out to a 3-0 lead just 18 minutes into the match. Junior Bethany Peck (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) opened the scoring with a goal at 5:22. Sophomore Laura Shipley (Austin, Texas/St. Michael's) supplied the assist.

The Wolverines then doubled the lead at 9:32 as freshman Hannah Yang (Davis, Calif./Davis) scored her second goal of 2006. Siber supplied the assist. Sophomore Kristin Colley (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn-Trafford) capped the early spurt with her first collegiate goal at 17:54. Michelle Peck assisted.

Sophomore Esther Harclerode (Cortez, Col./Montezuma-Cortez) closed the first-half scoring with her first collegiate goal at 36:52. Sophomore Anne Koller (Titusville, Pa./Homeschooled) assisted.

Siber opened the second half with her first goal of 2006. Michelle Peck assisted the score, which came at 51:55. Griffin extended the lead to 6-0 with an unassisted goal at 67:56. Griffin's second goal at 77:56 closed the match scoring.

Grove City out-shot the Bison (3-9-1, 1-2), 31-2. Sophomore goalkeepers Diana Pragel (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) and Bethany Preston (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) each played one half in goal. Preston made two saves in the second half.

The Wolverines will visit Washington & Jefferson Thursday, October 19 at 3 p.m.
