Behrend rallies past Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Visiting Penn State Behrend scored five times in the final 27 minutes Wednesday afternoon, earning a 5-2 win over Grove City in non-conference women's soccer action at College Field. Grove City is now 8-6-1 overall.

The Wolverines jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 6:32 mark as sophomore forward Stephanie Wild (Carmel, Ind./Heritage Christian) scored an unassisted goal. It is Wild's team-leading seventh goal of the season. Grove City then doubled its lead early in the second half as freshman Michelle Peck (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) scored at 54:46. Freshman Hannah Yang (Davis, Calif./Davis) assisted Peck.

However, Behrend charged back for the win. Whitney Putnam tied the match at 2-2 with consecutive goals at 63:10 and 64:03. Behrend then took the lead at 65:07 as Putnam assisted a Nikki Frisbee goal. Putnam's third goal at 76:06 extended the lead Lions' lead to 4-2.

Behrend's Kara Stromski capped the scoring at 79:03 with an unassisted goal.

Grove City out-shot Behrend, 21-11. Sophomore goalkeeper Diana Pragel (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) stopped four shots for the Wolverines.

Grove City will host Thiel in Presidents' Athletic Conference play Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m.
