Grove City battles TMC to 4-4 draw

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team earned a 4-4 double-overtime draw with visiting Thomas More (11-6-1, 5-0-1 PAC) Saturday afternoon in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at rain-soaked College Field. It is the highest-scoring tie in Grove City women's soccer history, surpassing the Wolverines' 3-3 deadlock at Frostburg State Sept. 25, 2002.

Grove City (10-6-1, 3-1-2 PAC) grabbed a 1-0 lead less than a minute into the match as freshman Hannah Yang (Davis, Calif./Davis) scored at 0:56. Yang's shot deflected off the right post into the back of the net, giving Grove City the lead.

Yang later scored the equalizer at 84:03, helping send the match into overtime. Yang has four goals and an assist of Grove City's last two matches.

Thomas More's Cathy Santillo tied the match at 16:58 but Grove City surged back ahead at 29:01 as sophomore Stephanie Wild (Carmel, Ind./Heritage Christian) scored her eighth goal of the season. Freshman Michelle Peck (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) assisted Wild.

With Grove City trailing 3-2 at 55:55, Peck again assisted Wild, who scored her second goal of the afternoon. Peck has a team-leading five assists. Thomas More then pulled back ahead at 57:47, 4-3, on a goal by Brittany Jones.

However, Yang tied the match with her sixth goal of the season with six minutes left in regulation. Junior Bethany Peck (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) assisted Yang.

Grove City owned a 29-9 edge in shots. Goalkeeper Diana Pragel (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) stopped four shots for the Wolverines.

The Wolverines will visit Westminster Wednesday afternoon in the PAC Championship Tournament semifinals. Grove City is the No. 3 seed while Westminster is the second seed.
