Wolverines nip La Roche, remain unbeaten

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team remained undefeated in 2007 by earning a 2-1 victory over visiting La Roche Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match at College Field. Grove City is now 5-0-1 overall, which represents the best start in program history.

Junior Stephanie Wild (Carmel, Ind./Heritage Christian) broke a 1-1 tie at the 85:13 mark with her team-leading fifth goal of the season. It is Wild's third game-winning goal of the season. She now has 14 total goals in 20 career matches.

Grove City grabbed an early 1-0 lead as freshman forward Emily Ostlund (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) scored at the 6:23 mark. Sophomore Michelle Peck (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) assisted on the goal, which is Ostlund's fourth of the season. However, La Roche tied the match at 24:13 on a goal by Michelle Steele.

Junior goalkeeper Bethany Preston (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) stopped two shots to earn her first victory of the season. Grove City owned an 18-4 edge in shots. Grove City had six corner kicks while La Roche had five.

Grove City will host Mount Union Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at 4 p.m.
