Grove City nips B-W, improves to 8-0-1

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team pulled out a 1-0 victory over visiting Baldwin-Wallace (6-4) Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at College Field. Grove City is now 8-0-1 overall, which is the best start in program history.

Sophomore Michelle Peck (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) scored her third goal of 2007 at the 22:48 mark, breaking a 0-0 tie. Her older sister, senior Bethany Peck (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) supplied the assist. It is Michelle Peck's second straight game-winning goal for Grove City.

Baldwin-Wallace appeared to have tied the match in the 63rd minute, but an offside call wiped out the goal.

In goal, junior Bethany Preston (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) stopped 11 shots to preserve the shutout victory. It is Preston's fourth straight win and third shutout of the season. Overall, Grove City has five shutouts this year and has an 0.43 goals-against average as a team.

Baldwin-Wallace outshot Grove City, 15-13. The Yellow Jackets also owned the edge in corner kicks, 8-5.

Grove City is now 9-0-2 in its last 11 regular-season matches, dating back to 2006. The Wolverines will open Presidents' Athletic Conference play Saturday at Bethany at 1 p.m.
