Lamie Earns 150th Win
Wolverines blank Bethany
BETHANY, W. Va. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team rolled to a 3-0 victory Saturday afternoon over host Bethany College at Hoag Field in each team's Presidents' Athletic Conference opener. The victory is the 150th for Grove City College head coach Melissa Lamie. Lamie is the program's all-time wins leader, as well as the PAC's all-time leader in women's soccer coaching victories.
Grove City is now 9-0-1 overall and 1-0 in the PAC. The 9-0-1 mark is Grove City's best record ever after 10 matches.
Junior Stephanie Wild (Carmel, Ind./Heritage Christian) gave Grove City a 1-0 lead at the 13:41 mark with her sixth goal of the season. The Wolverines then doubled the lead to 2-0 in the closing moments of the first half as junior Trish Griffith (Meadville, Pa./Saegertown) scored at 44:18. Freshman Carla Shula (Export, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) assisted Griffith.
Grove City added an insurance goal at 83:06 as sophomore Jessica Andrew (Bow, N.H./Bow) scored an unassisted goal. It is Andrew's second goal of the season.
In goal, junior Bethany Preston (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) recorded her fifth straight victory. Preston stopped one shot to earn her fifth shutout of the season. Grove City owned a 29-5 edge in shots. Grove City also had six corner kicks, compared to three for Bethany (0-6-3, 0-1).
Grove City will host Waynesburg Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. in PAC action at College Field.
